Did you know that February is Black History Month?
The tradition of Black History Month comes from the US but has been spreading all over the world. Thanks to it we devote the month of February to remembering a part of history that hasn’t always made it to history books but is no less interesting and relevant today than what’s in them.
Since especially African American history and culture is vitally important to us as swing dancers we to want to take this opportunity to educate ourselves. That’s why throughout February there will be plenty of opportunities to learn something new and connect some dots, with our without dance.
What we’ve got planned:
The history of rhythm – traditional West African rhythms and their influence in modern music genres
a talk with percussionist Tomáš Kerle (in Czech!)
Friday 07/02 at 7 pm at Unitaria (Anenská 5)
as always followed by party with live music
How did we get to Savoy? African Amerikan history and music until WWII
listening session with Adam H.
Sunday 09/02 at 4 pm at Café V lese (Krymská 12)
African dance workshop
with Terka Pospěchová and live music
Sunday 16/02 at 10 am at ABC (Vodičkova 32)
Looking forward to seeing you, whether you dance or not, February events are for everyone!
